Mary Forstbauer Update

September 1, 2010 By newwestfarmers

Mary Forstbauer, BC Association of Farmers' Markets, Advancing Marketplace Trust award recipient, with Jamie MacDonald, Maximum Impact Training and Development, Torch Awards event partner

Some of you may be aware that Mary Forstbauer, longtime RCFM vendor selling organic produce, beef, and other farm products and BCAFM president, has undergone heart surgery. Above all, RCFM tries very hard to be a community and we thank everyone who has expressed their concern for Mary. She’s doing well and is at home. She sent this note we wanted to pass along to everyone who has asked about her and sent along their good thoughts.

Thank you for all your prayers and healing thoughts this past month. Thank you for your calls, cards and flowers. I am now the proud owner of a new aortic heart valve.  On Aug 19, 2010 My open heart surgery was successful. After one week in hospital I was released to the care of my family.  At home I am taking it easy and walking as instructed by my medical team.  (My walks the first week were 5 minutes but they felt like I had run a marathon).  I am slowly increasing my walking time and activities.   The healing time is about 12 weeks.   Once my heart healing has been completed I will undergo knee replacement on my right knee hopefully late fall or early winter. I am healing and look forward to returning to the markets next spring as the new Super Organic Earth Mother. A special thank you to my good friend Mhora who has stepped forward and looked after the markets that she an I have been attending this summer.

We are so pleased that things have gone well, Mary! Can’t wait to see you soon.

Land Acknowledgement

Our market is grateful to operate on the unceded land of the Qayqayt, Kwikwetlem, and other Halkomelem speaking Peoples. We acknowledge that colonialism has made invisible their histories and connections to the land. We acknowledge the incredible gift this land is to our market and BC Agriculture. We commit to the ongoing work of decolonization and allyship.
