Join us every week until September 2nd at the Sprout Club Tent for a free activity or craft that looks at nature and food systems.
You can find the tent off of Queens Ave next to the Info Tent.
This week our Sprout Club activity is from our Guest Artist, Holly Nickerson, and she has made up some special step by step instructions with photos!
Rainbow Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Supplies:
– Construction paper, or other sturdy paper in white, green, red, blue, pink, yellow, and black. One sheet of each is more than enough.
– glue stick to adhere the paper pockets to the white construction paper base
-scissors to cut out the pockets
– markers, crayons, pencil crayons….anything to decorate the sheet with and label the pockets!
Steps:
1. Using only the coloured construction paper cut out a 4”x4” square of each colour.
*pocket options* measurements given are approximate. Feel free to make your pockets larger or smaller depending on the size of your paper and how crafty you want to get with it! Just be sure to leave some room for those folded edges, otherwise there won’t be any pockets!
2. Create a 1/2” fold on three of the edges on each square
3. Using the glue stick, glue the folded edge of each coloured square onto the sheet of white construction paper to form a colourful pocket. Be sure that all of the non folded edges of the squares are all at the top so items can be placed in the pockets! *TIP* when gluing the pockets onto the white construction paper be sure to leave some space for decoration!
4. Using markers, crayons, or pencil crayons (really whatever you like!) decorate the page. Some options are to label each pocket with the colour name, put your name at the top of the page, doodle some designs of the items you want to collect…..and more!
5. Go scavenge! The goal is to find one item in nature that corresponds with the colour of the pocket you created, and to place that item in the pocket. Get creative, it’s not just grass and leaves that are green 🙂
