Holiday Market – December 11 + 12, 2021

September 15, 2021 By Lily Nichol

We are so excited to be hosting our our second annual Holiday Food + Artisan Market!

Join us December 11 + 12, 2021 from 10am-4pm both days in the parking lot in front of New West City Hall!

Grab last minute gifts, stock your table for the holidays, and have a fantastic holiday experience while shopping local.

Join us for over 85 vendors including food, alcohol, and artisans plus food trucks! We will also have live music from 6 different musicians and free holiday kids crafts at the Sprout Club table!

Entrance is by donation to support disaster relief for the Fraser Valley.

New this year we are proud to offer an opportunity for 6 marginalized food or craft vendors to apply for a holiday market scholarship. The intention of this scholarship is to provide more opportunities for vendors who face barriers in bringing their products to market in the pursuit of equity and inclusion. As a community market it is important to us that our market accurately reflects our community and so we have 6 opportunities available for self-identified marginalized vendors to have their stall fees, membership fees, and insurance fees covered for this weekend market (approximately $225 value) to make this a more accessible opportunity for all.

These scholarship spots have been filled!

Final Sprout Club Activity!

September 4, 2021 By Lily Nichol

September 2nd – Last Week of Sprout Club!

Make wind chimes with us! Created by Holly Nickerson – Guest Artist!

Supplies :

  • 1 super cool stick. The bigger the stick the bigger the chime!
  • colourful knitting yarn. You can use any colour or colour combination you want. The multicoloured skeins make for the coolest looking chimes!
  • large metal washers
  • scissors

Step 1- wrapping the stick:
– cut a piece of yarn that is approximately 8x the length of your stick.
– fold the yarn in half and tie around one end of the stick being sure to leave some stick showing on either end.
– take the two halves of the yarn and together wrap them tightly around the length of the stick until you get to the end. Remember to leave some stick showing in either end!
– once the stick in wrapped tie the end by looping the two pieces of yarn into a simple knot, and then knitting them together to make sure it’s extra secure.

Step two- make the chimes!
– for each string on chimes you want three pieces of yarn, each cut to approximately 10 inches long. You can have as many or few chimes as you like. More strings = more noise! In the example image my chimes are approximately 3” apart.
– starting by tying the first piece of yarn to the top of one washer making sure to knit securely.
– take the second piece of yarn and tie securely to the opposite end of the washer.
– at the loose end of this second piece of yarn tie another washer. Repeat this one more time. At this point you will have three pieces of string tied around three washers.

Step 3- jazz up the chimes (optional)
– you will notice that there is lots of excess yarn hanging off of the strings you just created. You can either trim the excess string for a cleaner look or….jazz up your chimes with extra washers! Feel free to tie additional washers to the excess yarn the more washers you have, the more the chimes will make music. In the example image I have a combination of trimmed and I trimmed chimes

Step 4- assemble!:
– tie each string of chimes you just created to your super awesome stick. Cut an additional piece of yarn that is the length of your stick plus an additional 2 inches on either side. Tie this piece of yarn to either end of the stick and use it to hang your chime. Voila, you’re all done!

Thanks for making with us this year!
